Established by the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA), American Traffic Safety Services Association (ATSSA), and the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO) back in 1999, National Work Zone Awareness Week is celebrating its 15th anniversary this year, March 23rd-27th , using the same theme as its inaugural year, “Expect the Unexpected.”
This yearly event focuses on gaining attention around work zone safety and work zone workers. Since the creation of this national campaign, the number of work zone fatalities has significantly decreased.
The 2015 kick-off event will be hosted in Virginia by the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) at 11:00am on Tuesday, March 24th at the site of the Washington Boulevard/Columbia Pike VDOT Interchange Project.
We at PeopleNet are committed to making our roads safer by helping transportation companies and their drivers make more informed decisions about their time on the road.
