EOBR with Speed Monitoring viewed as key to reducing risk and enabling safe driving

MINNEAPOLIS AND DALLAS, October 17, 2011 – PeopleNet^®, a leading provider of innovative and integrated onboard computing and mobile communications systems for effective fleet management, today announced that they are partnering with Brazos Specialty Risk, Inc. and SpeedGauge, a leading provider of patented analytics that enables fleets to identify high-risk driving behavior,  to give PeopleNet EOBR (electronic on-board recorder) customers subscribing to Speed Monitoring a 5-10 percent discount on pay-per-mile auto liability insurance premiums. PeopleNet’s head of safety, security and compliance Jim Angel, who developed the new program, said, “By offering this discount, Brazos recognizes that near real-time access to speeding events and other driver behaviors is key to minimizing safety risks. The information is essential for making drivers aware of, and changing, behaviors that undermine safety. The program with Brazos Specialty Risk and SpeedGauge recognizes the power that EOBRs combined with Speed Monitoring have to improve safety. With the Federal Motor Carriers Safety Administration’s (FMCSA) EOBR Mandate 395.16 under review, the discount gives fleets another reason to consider staying ahead of the curve.”

The program is available for fleets with 15 or more power units that have EOBRs installed in the entire fleet. Monthly premiums are based on actual miles driven as reported by PeopleNet’s GPS system.
