Atrium Companies Installs PeopleNet's Onboard Computing System
Mobile Communications Technology Boosts Customer Service
MINNEAPOLIS - October 16, 2005 - PeopleNet, the leading provider of onboard computing and mobile communications systems to the nation's transportation industry, today announced that Atrium Companies, Inc., North America's largest manufacturer and distributor of residential vinyl and aluminum windows and patio doors, has begun installation of PeopleNet's tracking and mobile communications system in its private fleet.
"We are pleased that a solid company with a reputation for establishing a national presence and an uncontested reputation for quality, selection and service has chosen to do business with PeopleNet," said Ron Konezny, chief operating officer, PeopleNet. "The application of leading-edge applications has helped them to enhance their efficiency and get their windows to market more efficiently and we have worked closely with them to ensure we continue to deliver optimal functionality and return on investment."
Based in Dallas, Atrium operates a fleet of more than 156 power units and 501 trailers to deliver product a broad product line to its customers, which include the industry's leading builders, retailers, homecenters, lumberyards, contractors designers and architects, explains Jim Angel, director of fleet operations. The remainder of 1200-unit fleet is comprised straight trucks and service applications. The initial PeopleNet installation covers 60 units in Dallas and another 60 units at the company's Welcome, N.C. facility.
"People-Net allowed us to continue our on-time real-time OS&D reporting," says Angel. "By programming a pre-canned form that the drivers fill out, we are able to invoice right after delivery and generate accurate billing based on the information received, including who signed for the product at the customer's location."
In addition, PeopleNet allows him to boost customer service. Should a customer reject a delivery for any reason, Angel receives a report immediately allowing him to work with his manufacturing operation to get a new window treatment out on the next shipment instead of waiting for the original load to return to the plant, assess the OS&D claims and get a replacement out to the field.
Headquartered in Minneapolis, PeopleNet is the fastest-growing provider of Internet-based onboard computing and mobile communications systems to the transportation industry, including truckload, LTL, private, and service fleets. The company serves several Fortune 500 companies in the U.S. and Canada and has signed more than 1,200 customers since our inception 11 years ago.
