PeopleNet Unveils Logistics Intelligence to Enhance Fleet Performance
(September 22, 2008) PeopleNet has introduced Logistics Intelligence, an innovative set of fleet management tools for viewing and analyzing operational data to identify trends, head off potential trouble and increase profitability. Logistic Intelligence refers to new capabilities built into the latest version of PeopleNet Fleet Manager (PFM). PFM is an essential web-based application that enables communication with drivers and displays the wealth of real-time data gathered by PeopleNet's onboard systems.
"It's one thing to generate a sea of data. It's something else to present that data in ways that truly help managers improve operations and increase profit. Logistics Intelligence provides the tools to do just that," said Brian McLaughlin, chief operating officer.
According to McLaughlin, Logistics Intelligence begins with a complete makeover of PFM, which features a new on-screen "look and feel." The idea, he said, is to enable incisive analysis of everything from, say, an individual engine idling on a given day to the safety performance of a group of drivers over months to predictions of capacity requirements over the coming year.
PFM is being redesigned to enable more creative data use. Behind the appealing new interface, PeopleNet is building tools that enable managers to access dashboards and graphic representations of critical data. Users can view industry-standard, preformatted representations or they will be able to create dashboards and displays with the data they specify.
In other words, users will be able to access the data they need when they need it and in different ways, not just in standard reports. In effect, they will be able to configure and generate their own reports. They can also have those reports "pushed," or created and brought to their attention a preset times.
"Logistics Intelligence enables fleet managers to apply their own intelligence to the fleet operations they know better than anyone else," said McLaughlin.
