PeopleNet and TMTsoftware Announce Integration Initiative to Bring New Efficiencies to Maintenance Operations

Wireless transfer of odometer readings, engine time and fuel used mark first phase of partnership to automate and provide real-time maintenance management

PITTSBURGH-NPTC ANNUAL EDUCATION MANAGEMENT CONFERENCE & EXHIBITION, April 25, 2005-PeopleNet, the leading provider of onboard computing and mobile communications, and TMTsoftware, the leading provider of fleet maintenance software, today announced they are integrating their products to bring significant efficiencies to fleet maintenance operations through automated data collection and tracking of maintenance information.

The initiative combines PeopleNet's wireless delivery of real-time engine data through PerformXTM with the widely recognized maintenance tracking capabilities of TMTsoftware's TRANSMAN® fleet management software. The result is an improved ability to keep vehicles safe and on the job at the lowest cost.

"The integration aligns closely with the needs of our customers who have asked for more streamlined maintenance operations," says Ron Konezny, Chief Operating Officer for PeopleNet. "Just one piece of data, odometer readings for example, delivered from the road can lead to considerable efficiency in scheduling preventive maintenance. Our vision for this integration is to provide fleets with real-time maintenance updates."

Rick Rosenberg, President of TMTsoftware states "the integration strategy with PeopleNet emphasizes our development model to simplify and assure accurate data collection and flow. This integration emphasizes our commitment to facilitate not only the most effective informed decisions but also the most efficient work flow both of which yield significant bottom line results."

Today, obtaining vehicle information and engine data requires the vehicle to pull off the road and a technician to manually collect the data. From there, it is transferred into the TRANSMAN system. With the integration, the data is collected, transmitted and tracked automatically while the vehicle stays on the road, requiring no interaction by maintenance personnel.

During the first phase of the integration, the diagnostics transferred from the J1708 data bus include odometer, engine time and fuel used. Users are able to set thresholds for each of these variables and can be notified when a milestone is reached. Down the road, integration may include wireless transmission of fault codes, vehicle inspection reports, automated message notifications, and more.

TMTsoftware's TRANSMAN® is a powerful maintenance management software solution developed specifically to provide accurate and easily accessible information for every aspect of fleet management operations including purchasing, invoicing, warranty, shop planning and human resources. TRANSMAN® is available for Windows, iSeries, and Internet environments.

The PeopleNet system has become the standard for GPS-based location tracking, two-way voice and data communications, and Internet-based fleet business tools to provide consistent, reliable communication between business owners, dispatchers, drivers and shippers. A key feature of the system is OTAP (over-the-air programming), which allows PeopleNet to make system upgrades without taking vehicles off the road.

Headquartered in Minneapolis, PeopleNet is the leading provider of Internet-based onboard computing and mobile communications systems to the long-haul transportation and metro-based fleet industries. The company serves carriers throughout the U.S. and Canada. For more information about PeopleNet, call 888-346-3486, e-mail info@peoplenetonline.com, or visit www.peoplenetonline.com.
