General Aluminum Converts to PeopleNet's Onboard Computing System
PeopleNet technology enhances window maker's distribution efficiency
PITTSBURGH-NPTC ANNUAL EDUCATION MANAGEMENT CONFERENCE & EXHIBITION, April 25, 2005-PeopleNet, the leading provider of onboard computing and mobile communications systems to the nation's transportation industry, today announced that General Aluminum Corp., a designer and manufacturer of custom-made windows, has equipped its fleet with PeopleNet's tracking and mobile communications system.
General Aluminum operates a fleet of 17 over-the-road trucks to transport windows from its manufacturing facility in Dallas to distribution centers and then on to construction sites. The units operate primarily within the southeastern United States, with product delivery for other portions of the country generally handled by for-hire carriers.
Converting to the PeopleNet mobile communications solution has provided John Gibson, General Aluminum's dispatcher, improved visibility of vehicle location and available driver hours, allowing him to route units to meet customer needs. The over-the-air programming feature provides him the security to ensure that he is complying with the latest hours-of-service regulations.
Not only has he been able improve the tracking and routing of his units, the messaging capabilities of the PeopleNet allows him to communicate more accurately with his drivers - eliminating the need for costly cell phones, providing e-mail to drivers, storing critical data in the systems and sending accurate directions to the drivers.
"The PerformX feature allows us to track miles per gallon, idling and PTO economy in real time. Not only does it save us time and improve accuracy, it has helped us manage our drivers better. We can communicate more intelligently because we have the data right in our hands and we can make changes right away," says Gibson. "The PeopleNet system has provided us the tools we need to better manage our fleet operations."
The PeopleNet system has become the standard for GPS-based location tracking, two-way voice and data communications, electronic driver logs, and Internet-based fleet business tools to provide consistent, reliable communication between business owners, dispatchers, drivers and shippers.
Headquartered in Minneapolis, PeopleNet is the fastest-growing provider of Internet-based onboard computing and mobile communications systems to the transportation industry, including truckload, LTL, private, and service fleets. The company serves several Fortune 500 companies in the U.S. and Canada and has signed more than 1,000 customers since our inception 11 years ago.
