NPTC Annual Private Fleet Benchmarking Survey Sponsored by PeopleNet
CINCINNATI - The National Private Truck Council (NPTC) has announced that PeopleNet has been named the exclusive sponsor of the organization's annual private fleet benchmarking survey.
The 2010 Benchmarking Survey is designed for the benefit of NPTC members and the private fleet community. The purpose is to help compare private fleet operations to other best-in-class performers and industry best practices, thereby validating a fleet's performance and identifying areas of opportunity.
The National Private Truck Council's 2010 Annual Benchmarking Survey is designed as a "must have" assessment tool for fleets of all sizes and scope. The Survey examines a number of key performance metrics such as driver turnover; trailer-tractor ratios; slip-seating usage; onboard technology usage; backhaul capacity; private fleets with for-hire authority; trade cycles; customer service; driver compensation, and the like. The goal of this exercise is to affirm areas of excellence and uncover opportunities for improved performance.
Survey participants receive an advance, complimentary copy of the statistical summary report. A preliminary report of the survey data will also be the basis of a presentation at the NPTC Annual Conference, April 18-20 in Cincinnati, with the final report distributed electronically to NPTC members only on August 1, 2010.
"In today's cost-driven environment, private fleet justification has, for all practical purposes, become a per-run, per-day drill event for managers of even the most proven and long-standing fleets," said Gary Petty, NPTC President and CEO. "National benchmarks that measure how well an individual private fleet stacks up against best-in-class metrics help take the guesswork out of this process."
The Survey is not intended as a critique to "pass judgment" on a private fleet; rather, it is designed as a template by which a fleet can gauge its performance against comparative peer data.
PeopleNet's COO Brian McLaughlin explained, "We are dedicated to maximizing fleet performance, and believe in the continuous education and importance of measuring performance outcomes. The NPTC continues to offer invaluable tools and resources to the private fleet community, and PeopleNet is proud to be an allied member and sponsor of the Annual Private Fleet Benchmarking Survey."
PeopleNet's sponsorship will enhance the survey by adding additional data and valuable information. For instance, in 2010, the survey is adding questions on the value of fleet graphics; texting policies; environmental "green" policies; fuel tax and the use of team drivers.
Participating companies in the survey can be assured of complete confidentiality-an essential standard in attracting and keeping private fleets as participants. Therefore, an individual company's responses will not be shared with other companies; rather, data submitted by all companies is combined with the results of other fleet member companies to produce a "state of industry" report. Moreover, the sponsor of the survey plays no role in the development, analysis, or distribution of the survey results, and has no access whatsoever to the identity and data of participating fleet companies.
A preliminary report of the 2010 Benchmarking Survey was made at the NPTC Annual Conference in April and the final report will be made to NPTC members on August 1, 2010. To participate, contact Tom Moore, CTP, at tmoore@nptc.org.
