PeopleNet Launches Technology that Lets Customers Rapidly Develop and Maintain Their Own Software Applications on BLU
BLULink gives PeopleNet users direct access to its network for the first time, as well as the flexibility to use PeopleNet's expert resources
MINNEAPOLIS, March 10, 2009-PeopleNet (www.peoplenetonline.com), a provider of innovative Internet-based and integrated onboard computing and mobile communications systems for effective fleet management, today announced the launch of BLULinkTM, a technology that makes it easier and faster to develop custom software applications to run on PeopleNet's powerful BLU in-cab PC-for both customers and the company's Tailored Solutions team. In making the announcement at the Truckload Carriers Association Show being held March 8-11 in Orlando, Flor., Randy Boyles, vice president Tailored Solutions, said, "With BLULink, we're giving our customers a choice to help them meet their specific operational needs. They will have the power and control to develop applications and manage them directly without our support, including remote diagnostics. Or, they can count on our Tailored Solutions folks to work even faster and more efficiently with BLULink."
BLULink makes the Software Development Kit that was introduced with the BLU platform last year easier to use because it requires less training and no onsite assistance. BLULink grants customers direct access to the PeopleNet network to do their own over the air programming similar to the OTAP® technology that the company introduced several years ago. By sending simple commands over PeopleNet's network, a customer can easily install new versions of their own code, perform a loop back test on data transfer, and request diagnostic logs from the system.
BLU also makes engine control monitoring data, eDriver Logs® information, and GPS positioning data readily available for custom applications. In addition, BLU's open software environment enables BLULink to support full data exchange with back-end systems, as well as in-cab devices that use PeopleNet's proprietary PTP protocol. BLULink also supports BLU's serial port, so it can interface to other serial devices such as mobile printers.
Shaun Sinnadurai, IT director for Justin Davis Enterprises, a PeopleNet customer, explained, "BLULink has simplified and accelerated the development of our new in-cab system. Changing my own software code and quickly updating it myself, remotely while our vehicles are on the road, saves us a lot of time. It's a real advantage for speeding up the implementation of new software as well as beefing up existing software."
